Biography

Dr. Gratis's medical journey began at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar es Salaam, where they graduated with distinction. Driven by a passion for whole-person care, they pursued advanced specialty training in general and family medicine, obtaining a Diploma in Family Medicine and a Fellowship in General Practice.

Following residency, they undertook further training in Europe — gaining experience in the latest approaches to preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and evidence-based primary care. This international exposure enriched their clinical practice and shaped their commitment to bringing world-class family medicine to Tanzanian patients.

On returning to Tanzania in 2011, Dr. Gratis joined Muhimbili National Hospital as a specialist physician, leading dedicated primary-care clinics and mentoring junior doctors. In 2014, they founded DrGratis Sphere — a modern family-medicine practice in Dar es Salaam — with a mission to make high-quality primary healthcare accessible and affordable to all.

The practice offers the full spectrum of general-practice services: from routine health checks, childhood and travel vaccinations, and women's health screenings to chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, asthma, cholesterol), mental-health support, minor procedures, telehealth consultations, and medical certification.

Dr. Gratis is a Fellow of the College of Physicians of East, Central & Southern Africa and a member of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA). They hold an active registration with the Medical Council of Tanzania and are a founding member of the Tanzania General Practice Society.

Beyond clinical practice, they are a vocal advocate for accessible primary healthcare across sub-Saharan Africa and have published research on health outcomes in resource-limited settings. They speak English, Swahili, and Portuguese, and warmly welcome patients from across Tanzania and the East African region.
